Valve Sizing and Selection

The charts on the full data sheet (link below) contain the National Board certified flow ratings for air, steam, and water at standard conditions as specified in ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 UG-129 and UG-131. Common correction factors are provided to calculate the effects of minor variations from these standard conditions.

Knowing the set pressure, required relieving capacity, service fluid and conditions, use these charts to determine the orifice letter corresponding to the flow area required to meet or exceed the flow requirements. then refer to the Model Numbering and Dimension charts to select the connections and materials best suited to the application.

For further information regarding the sizing and selection of pressure relief valves, or to calculate the flow of other types of fluids or at other conditions, please refer to ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 Part UG including Appendix 11, and ANS I/ API RP 520 Part I.
